Orcs Must Die! 2’s gameplay is similar to its predecessor with a slight variation in it. If playing either War Mage or Sorceress, it is essential for the player that he do his utmost to rescue himself from one or more Rifts from the waves of orc armies coming out of one or more doors in a given level. They come out in a large number. Meanwhile, the player has sufficient time to ready himself from surviving their attacks/traps. This is not the case with Nightmare difficulty, as approx. every three waves allow the player to take his time so that he can eliminate the next wave.

In order to eliminate the waves of enemies, it is necessary for the player that he select a considerable number of trap spells and equipment from his Spellbook. He can put the traps anytime.
